Green lawnmowers

Green lawnmowers, and I’m not talking colours here, is a subject that I’ve been meaning to comment on for a while now, and I’ve literally been prompted into action today by reading some extraordinary reviews about a particular mower. The machine in question is a very simple cylinder mower that is completely unspectacular in appearance, but extremely spectacular in performance. Therefore let’s take a slightly closer look at the little green lawnmower that’s selling by the thousand.

Hand powered Qualcast Panther

It may be small, and it may be hand powered, but it certainly cuts!

Without further ado, the lawnmower I’m interested in is the Qualcast Panther 30, which is a very simple hand powered cylinder mower. I had some experience of this little dynamo a while back when actually making my guide ‘Lawn care and maintenance’. I remember questioning the option of using a hand powered lawnmower in the demonstration, after all, most people may look on it as something of a dinosaur, but I decided to ‘go for it’, because it did seem to do an incredibly good job. In fact the job was so good, I used it over the entire summer on my ‘set’ to keep the grass neatly cut and looking good for any time that I needed a green grass backdrop.

I’m certainly not surprised that petrol powered, and electrically powered lawnmowers are the mainstay of the market, and I, like most DIY enthusiasts, am always looking out for the next technological breakthrough, but I’m just beginning to wonder whether this lawnmower is an example of where basic is best. Not only does it work, it will also save you money, as no more trips down to the petrol station, or plugging in the electric lead. How much does the average lawn cut cost? It obviously depends on lawn size, but whichever way you look at it, it’s not going to take long before the Qualcast will literally have paid for itself!

Finally, and probably most importantly, it is a truly green lawnmower, because there is no need for power. I’m not saying this machine will suit everyone, nor will it solve the global warming situation, but I really would give it some serious consideration if you’re in the market for a new mower, and if you still feel a little sceptical, then just take a look at the number of reviewers on Amazon.

I agree with you there, simple almost always is best. Like the look of this lil baby…always good to keep it green when possible!
